SUMMARY:Bec Sykes Pepperpot Magic Tour\, live at the Old Church on the Hill w/ Eliza Hull
DESCRIPTION:Bec Sykes is playing her debut Bendigo show at the Old Church on the Hill\, with very special guest\, Eliza Hull. \n  \nRising Naarm/Melbourne-based dream folk singer & songwriter Bec Sykes (she/her) is embarking on the Pepperpot Magic Tour\, a seven date East Coast headline run this July where she will be performing songs from her Australian Music Prize-nominated debut album Pepperpot Magic and previewing the new music she’s been creating since its release. Supports and special guests to be announced\, and all shows will be Auslan Interpreted. \nLauded for her songwriting prowess\, striking voice and captivating stage presence\, the magnetism of Bec Sykes’ live performance is as palpable when performing stripped back on iconic Recital Centre stages as it is with her full band at much-loved sticky carpet venues. Her performances are grounded with a refinement and growth in confidence that mirrors the deeply personal evolution traced on her “beautifully intimate” (Atwood Magazine) debut album. \nShe will be playing her first ever Bendigo show at the Old Church on the Hill in duo mode featuring piano\, Sykes’ honeyed vocals and Ronan Nicholson on pedal steel guitar. A beautiful evening of music for all ages (children must be accompanied by a guardian). \nReleased alongside lead single ‘Last to Know’ – which has since had more than 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone – Pepperpot Magic saw Sykes reclaim her power after leaving behind her Christian upbringing and a lonely relationship. Its arrangements are meticulous yet understated\, with Sykes’ warm\, honeyed vocals right up front and the band’s restrained arrangements subtly but powerfully building the world of each song. Spanning the minimalist to textural\, they lay the foundation for Sykes’ voice to work its spellbinding power. \nBec Sykes has been carving out her corner of the music landscape in so-called-Australia since her breathtaking debut single ‘Edithvale’ led to winning iconic Melbourne record label Pieater’s (Maple Glider\, Big Scary) ‘Pie School’ competition and the Josh Pyke Partnership. She toured nationally with Josh Pyke and has since supported Sarah Blasko\, Telenova\, Jem Cassar-Daley\, Mia Wray\, Teenage Dads\, Didirri and Katy Steele. \nPraise for Bec Sykes \n“I could listen to you sing all day\, Bec” – Zan Rowe \n“My favourite album of the year” – Merpire \n“A dreamy\, achingly tender alt-folk triumph.” – Atwood Magazine \n“Bec Sykes has one of the most beautiful voices. I stood there in complete awe the whole time. I could not believe what I was witnessing” – Reverie AU \n“A robust\, hypnotic voice… Stylistically we hear evidence of Fiona Apple and The Weather Station.” – The Wild Is Calling US \n  \n***Auslan interpreted*** \n***All ages welcome\, however children must be accompanied by a guardian.***

SUMMARY:Toby Mobbs live at The Old Church on the Hill w/Steph Bitter
DESCRIPTION:Albury singer-songwriter Toby Mobbs will be on the road for another national tour this October to promote his third album ‘Stranger That I Know’. This tour will cover 14\,000km in the car over 28 days and will see Mobbs playing a show in every state and territory. This tour will feature local original support acts for each show\, Matt Cross on keys for select shows\, and end with Toby being backed by 13 members of the Albury Wodonga Symphony Orchestra for his hometown show to close the journey.\nThe third album by Toby Mobbs\, ‘Stranger That I Know’\, holds a familiar sound from what you’ve come to expect from his releases while maintaining many surprises. A diverse genre packed collection in 8 songs without any of them feeling out of place. Mobbs has again brought along with him the finest of musical friends to help shape this release including feature artists Meedie and James Oswald. Co-production by Matt Cross has shaped an album that places high value on melody and harmony. While you won’t hear a full orchestra or operatic tenor this time around\, tracks like ‘Best For Me’ will pull you straight back to 90s rock\, a folk driven sound of ‘Some Time’\, and just enough violins and guitar solos on the closing track ‘Rather Stay’ to remind you that a Toby Mobbs album while familiar\, is no stranger to the unexpected.\nToby Mobbs is a librarian by day and pop-folk singer-songwriter by night. Mobbs has sought to carve a unique music style both live and in the studio by incorporating thick\, dynamic\, and rhythmic guitar\, warm vocals\, and introspective lyrical storytelling. When not in his hometown of Albury NSW\, you will find him traveling around Australia finding new towns and audiences to connect with\, providing insight into the stories behind the music\, and promoting his latest studio releases.\nWhile Toby has been labelled one of the hardest working independent touring musicians in the country\, and having supported the likes of Thirsty Merc\, Josh Pyke\, and Winterbourne\, his studio recordings shine a different light to his stripped back performances on stage. These recordings break far away from the solo artist typecast\, showcasing a unique interpretation of the many musical genres that inspire his writing.\n\nTour Tickets: https://tobymobbs.tix.to/NationalTour2026\n$10 online (+bf) or at the door. Under 18s accompanied by guardian. Show starts 7pm. Support by: Steph Bitter\nListen to ‘Stranger That I Know’ album: https://tobymobbs.lnk.to/StrangerThatIKnow

SUMMARY:Flora's 'This Feeling is a Memory' album launch at The Old Church on the Hill\, w/Xanthe Thorpe
DESCRIPTION:Flora presents their sophomore album ‘This Feeling is a Memory’. First up on Flora’s inaugural interstate tour is hometown Bendigo. They will be joined by the local Xanthe Thorpe. Flora’s debut and sophomore album will be available to purchase on vinyl.\n\nDoors – 4:30pm\, Xanthe Thorpe – 5pm\, Flora – 6pm\n\nFlora is the evocative musical project of Wurundjeri-based artist Manni Churchill (they/them). Known for their alt-folk and country-gaze magic\, Flora’s music is a steady fixture of the Melbourne/Naarm music scene. Seeping through venue walls Flora encapsulates echoes of home\, unspoken conversations\, and a fierce dedication to the underdog. Backed by an intricate ensemble\, Churchill’s sonic world draws comparisons to the raw vulnerability of Adrianne Lenker and the melancholia of Phoebe Bridgers. While pulling from an eclectic web of influences ranging from the quirky lo-fi folk of Kimya Dawson to the soulful\, textured beats of Nujabes\, Flora’s sound has it’s own unique feeling.\nCentral to Flora’s identity is Churchill’s emotional connection to Djarra country. Growing up in the rolling hills of Harcourt\, the landscape served as a playground of freedom and imagination. Churchill spent their childhood roaming the hills\, building hidden cubbys within granite rocks\, swimming in snake-inhabited dams\, and proudly guiding friends on tours of the local wombat holes and forests. This profound intimacy with the land remains the beating heart of Flora’s songwriting. It infuses the music with a distinct sense of place and nostalgia.\nAs an active participant in Naarm’s vibrant music scene where folk music and community naturally intersect\, Flora has cultivated a dedicated following\, regularly selling out local venues long before releasing their self-titled debut album in 2024. The first record explored early struggles with mental health in raw tracks like ‘Die Young’ and ‘Get Better’\, Flora’s highly anticipated sophomore album\, ‘This Feeling is a Memory’ represents a triumphant\, unfolding evolution of their life journey. The album is a cohesive testament to Churchill’s personal recovery\, speaking directly to healing\, hope\, and the enduring strength of bonds with loved ones.\nAs an independent artist\, Flora begins the songwriting process with an acoustic guitar. While Churchill arranged specific instrumental blueprints for the title track\, the band contributed their own creative liberties to build upon the foundations of the other songs. The band consists of Pia Nesvara (backing vocals)\, Lali Hodgkins (banjo\, backing vocals)\, Finn Endries (viola\, accordian)\, Lachlan White (Drums) and Franz Justice-Delupang (Bass).\nSuccessfully producing their first album with Lara Prokop\, they have collaborated for a second time to produce ‘This Feeling is a Memory’. The duo meticulously produced the album to refine Flora’s unique alt-folk sound.\nFlora’s live performances offer audiences a multi-faceted experience. Performing solo\, Churchill delivers the songs in their purest form\, just a voice\, unconventional chord progressions\, and alternate guitar tunings. Deeply inspired by Melbourne’s old-time scene\, they also perform as a stringband trio gathered around a single condenser microphone. When joined by the full band\, the arrangements bloom into a grand\, spellbinding wall of sound. Banjo\, viola\, accordion\, and acoustic guitar interweave with a rhythmic backbone of bass and drums\, all elevated by rich\, three-part harmonies. With a vast back catalogue of poosongs already earmarked for future stringband reimagining\, Flora continues to evolve\, proving that home isn’t just a place in the hills\, but a feeling carried forward.\n@flora_andtheband\nBendigo native singer-songwriter Xanthe Thorpe has been surrounded by live music since her birth. Growing up in a musical family\, she began performing locally at around 14\, developing her voice through bands playing everything from jazz and funk to rock and beyond. In 2026\, Xanthe shifted focus to become a solo acoustic performer\, bringing that broad musical background to a mix of acoustic covers and original songs. With a love for exploring different genres and a passion for sharing music\, she brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the solo stage.\nThe Old Church on the Hill is on Djaara Country – the land of the Dja Dja Wurrung people and is located on the corner of Harkness and Russell Streets\, Quarry Hill\, Bendigo.\nThe Singer/Songwriter Showcase events\, staged at the Old Church by the Bendigo Blues & Roots crew on a semi-regular basis\, are an opportunity to enjoy a House Concert vibe in a public venue. The door charge is kept as low as possible to ensure accessibility to all. Under 12s free and\, although drinks are available for sale\, the focus is on THE MUSIC.Proceeds from drink sales go to supporting the Old Church crew and their many worthy initiatives. We look forward to your company for an intimate concert experience like you’ve likely never experienced before.
