SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Tasha Zappala + Victor Cripes
DESCRIPTION:Two contrasting styles from two great young acts – soulful\, jazzy and sweet vs raw\, bluesy and rugged – Tasha Zappala and Victor Cripes\, both making their Blues Tram debut. \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts: \nTasha Zappala:\nAustralian singer-songwriter Tasha Zappala unlocks a raw mixture of post-folk blues that synthesizes the atmosphere of a local coffee shop where the lighting is warm & the ambiance is nothing short of enticing. Her intense gypsy-folk melodies will at one moment materialize into dainty falsettos\, and at the next into a throaty\, growling chest tone. Soulful and spine-tingling\, ethereal and evocative\, Zappala weaves abstracted tales of foggy memories and days adrift. \nVictor Cripes:\n‘This is the kind of music that really gets me excited’ -Matt Frederick (Juke Joint – PBS 106.7 FM)\n‘Victor Cripes is a lot like the gear I make. A little rough around the edges\, but sounds great’ –Larry Mead (Mead Guitars)\n‘Sounds dirtier than a couple of copulating gorillas’ -Parlour Gigs(International Tour Agency)\nVictor Cripes delivers a distinctive dirty blues sound which echoes the styles of over 100 years of blues music – from the blues masters of yester-year to the British / American blues revival of the 1960’s. A partnership of Australian easy groove\, American thump and British tube overdrive\, while keeping an original modern twist. \nSaturday January 12th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Tasha Zappala + Victor Cripes\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $35 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO. SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Marisa Quigley + Don Morrison
DESCRIPTION:Two contrasting styles from two well-traveled and well credentialed acts – Marisa Quigley (Beechworth\, VIC) and Don Morrison (Adelaide\, SA). \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts: \nMarisa Quigley:\nMarisa is an award-winning Australian blues/roots singer and songwriter\, solo artist\, and cabaret performer. With her charismatic stage presence and powerhouse delivery\, the husky-voiced chanteuse has drawn comparisons with Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt. Absolutely at home on the stage\, with her irreverent wit and deft lyrics\, Marisa has audiences in stitches one minute\, and moved to tears the next.\nHer songwriting influences are as diverse as Tom Waits and The Eagles\, and her songs span the gamut from haunting to heartfelt to hilarious. With an eclectic blend of blues/roots and alt-country/folk\, a wink and a nudge\, a tickle and a poke\, her act is soulful\, fun\, endearing—and highly entertaining. \nDon Morrison:\n“South Australian resonator specialist\, guitar-maker and raconteur Don Morrison returns with a self-titled solo album of bluesy R&B rich with Morrison’s trademark colour and humour. The way Morrison enjoys mixing slapstick with social and political commentary\, it wouldn’t be surprising to discover that Ry Cooder is high up his list of musical heroes. The Australian Ry Cooder? Who wouldn’t want that tag? Certainly Don has a deft touch on the slide guitar.\nUnashamedly regional\, Morrison sings about the places\, people and plights of his immediate environment\, talking about Adelaide and the Nullarbor and enjoying applying his wit to working man’s concerns like fishing (‘Fishing’) and the mining boom (‘Mining Boom’).” – Martin Jones\, Rhythms \nSaturday February 9th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Marisa Quigley + Don Morrison\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $35 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO. The epitome of the itinerant musician\, he draws together tales and musings from his travels and is as likely to deliver them in soft ballad form as he is face-meltingly intricate and upbeat roots/country/blues.  \nJo Jo Smith:\nJo Jo is an inspirational performer generous of heart soul and musicality. SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Lily & King + Alister Turrill
DESCRIPTION:Two of the most exciting acts on the Roots and Folk Music festival scene in Australia\, performing The Blues Tram together on Saturday 11 May 2019 – fast rising guitarist/singer/songwriter Alister Turrill and the always rambunctious and engaging Lily & King! \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts: \nLily and King:\nLily and King are a quirky\, musical junkyard from Melbourne. Their aim is to use all of their limbs for making music at the one time. Lily and King create rousingly catchy music that sits somewhere between a captivating 40’s nightclub routine and the raw\, rambunctious spirit of New Orleans street buskers.\nDixieland punk\, junkyard blues\, sailor songs\, weird carnie show tunes and the odd bit of curious pop\, their music is joyful\, beautiful and a bit dirty and wicked too.\nWith trombone\, sweet and sassy vocals\, toy piano\, guitar\, half a drum kit and an abundance of foot stomping\, their melodies are infused with wild exuberance and joie de vivre – a Lily and King gig is a truly wild and joyful experience. \nAlister Turrill Music:\nAlister is a songwriter of the highest order and a sign that the future of Australian blues is in good hands.” – Lloyd Spiegel\, Premier Endorsee Cole Clark Guitars.\nIt would be a generalisation to group Queenscliff’s Alister Turrill with other young roots players. His playing style blends a true form of blues with complex song writing seldom seen.\nThe past two years have seen the new Melbourne resident at his busiest and best yet with his first East Coast Tour (including a well-received slot on the Roaming Buskers Stage at Byron Bay Bluesfest 2017) and first European shows.\nBBRMF 2018 will once again see Alister joined by dear friend and drumming extraordinaire\, Toby Johnson\, for a series of energetic and demanding performances.\nHonest\, Flawed\, Gravel-Throated Folkin’ Blues awaits. \nSaturday May 11th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Lily & King + Alister Turrill\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $35 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO. SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Karrie Hayward + Jarrod Shaw
DESCRIPTION:A super-talented young singer/songwriter from Queensland makes her Blues Tram Debut while a well established Victorian bluesman returns to ride the rails in October 2019. \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts: \nKarrie Hayward:\nWhen you blend the rich\, soulful vocal tones with the vibrant\, percussive timbre of a guitar\, you get Karrie Hayward. Drawing inspiration from blues music and guitar heroes such as John Mayer\, Buddy Guy\, BB King; to the more ‘chilled’ sounds of Jack Johnson and Tash Sultana\, Karrie’s own style is a blend of the best parts of folk\, pop\, alt and blues. \nJarrod Shaw:\nJarrod Shaw possesses a passion and appreciation for blues music that becomes obvious from the moment the first note sounds. He delivers a soulful blues inspired show\, performed with conviction.\nJarrod was born and raised in country Victoria\, down the dirt roads of the Macedon Ranges. He taught himself to play guitar listening to the renowned blues greats\, as well as the icons of the Australian and local Melbourne blues scene.\nPerforming countless solo gigs has aided Jarrod in developing a musical style of his own. He blends his unique guitar approach lying somewhere between piedmont fingerstyle and the blues of the delta\, with a powerful voice often described as belying his years. At times he even wails away on a racked blues harp – all at once without missing a beat. If you close your eyes you might even believe there’s more than one person performing… \nSaturday October 12th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Karrie Hayward + Jarrod Shaw\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $39 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO. SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Geoff Achison + Cass Eager (Duo)
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts. \nCass Eager:\nNamed by folk-blog Timber and Steel as ‘Janis Joplin and Ben Harper’s love-child’\, Cass Eager’s mix of raw blues\, husky soul and lighthearted ditties are all punctuated with her unique whisky-soaked vocals. Emotive\, slightly raspy\, at times tender and at times powerful – Eager’s voice is the driving force of her music.\nInternationally-renowned but defiantly grassroots\, Cass Eager is one of those rare artists that’s mastered everything from the foot-stomping blues to a sensual slow burner. She’s been called ‘one of the best female singers in Australia’ by Richard Glover (ABC)\, and even Diesel claims she could ‘sing the phone book to you and you wouldn’t get bored’. \nGeoff Achison:\nGeoff Achison is an award winning blues-roots artist from Australia known for his energetic live performances and unique guitar mastery. Geoff began his apprenticeship with legendary Australian blues stylist ‘Dutch’ Tilders establishing himself as a fine lead guitarist before striking out with his own. He was an independent music pioneer releasing music on his own record label in the early 90s and touring throughout the USA\, UK & Europe. Geoff’s music has been compared favourably to Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers Band having a solid foundation in the blues whilst embracing a variety of electric & acoustic styles. His songwriting is original and thoughtful with a wry sense of humour reminiscent at times of Randy Newman\, JJ Cale and Mose Allison. \nSaturday November 9th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Geoff Achison + Cass Eager\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 8pm\, returning 10:30pm.\nTix: $39 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO. SUMMARY:CANCELLED Easter Blues Tram w/Karrie Hayward + Miguel Rios
DESCRIPTION:A super-talented young singer/songwriter from Queensland\, in town for Easter Blues Bender\, returns to ride the rails while a talented singer/songwriter from Melbourne makes his Blues Tram debut. \nMiguel Rios (Running Blue):\nRunning Blue is the musical moniker for songwriter and singer Miguel Rios and fiddle player Ash Jones. Rios\, grew up in the Queensland tablelands\, beautiful and taunting country\, Rios\, part Mexican\, part native American\, writes songs which are lyrically driven\, the words are both simple and incisive\, a dichotomy matched by a vocal style that is pure and unforced\, yet raw. These are detailed and deeply personal stories but they also thrum with universal truths. This gifted\, highly original singer-songwriter gives soulful voice to the longings and dark comedies of human striving that play out against the natural world. His gift has been burnished by the accompaniment of his close friend\, Ash Jones. Rios and this extraordinarily talented fiddler know each other inside out\, and it shows in the way Jones’s playing weaves in and out of the music like smoke through sunbeams. \nSaturday April 11th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Karrie Hayward + Miguel Rios\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $39 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO. SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Luke Watt + Alawishus Jones & The Outright Lies
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two brilliant acts: \nLuke Watt is a folk/blues guitarist and songwriter described by ABC National as “Raw and mercurial\, the real deal\,” and by Lloyd Spiegel as “A master of his craft.”\nDespite the experiences of touring his last album Hill End Ruin throughout Europe and the U.S\, Luke Watt’s new record is inspired by stories based much closer to home. Wild Graces is a collection of songs inspired by\, written and recorded in his now home of Central Victoria. The record was then mixed by long-time collaborator Nick Huggins (Jen Cloher\, Skipping Girl Vinegar\, Whitley). Luke’s folk and blues guitar playing carries songs of failed gold diggers\, small town tragedies and feuds between cranky old men. Wild Graces is an album from a touring artist who set up home and found stories worth telling. \nAll the way from the heart of the deep south comes the sound of authenticity cobbled together by three of the finest purveyors of twenty first century blues. Alawishus Jones\, Cleitus Johnson and T-Bone Redding seamlessly combine in multi-instrumental song lines that are rambunctious and delicious in equal measures.\nFixtures on all good festivals these ragtime playing rapscallions put on a rollicking show full of great music\, showmanship and comedy. Their first album ‘Little White Lies’ was launched earlier this year and greeted with ‘hollers’ and hoots of approval from all and sundry.\nPull up your braces\, button your collar\, hang on to your seats and get ready for the highly democratic\, somewhat enigmatic\, often melodramatic\, fully gyrostatic and totally charismatic Alawishus Jones & The Outright Lies! \nSaturday August 8th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Luke Watt + Alawishus Jones & The Outright Lies\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm (sharp)\, returning 4:15pm (approx.).\nTix: $39 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO.
