Hailey Calvert’s voice is undeniably incredible. Its that warm and breathtaking blues voice together with impressive guitar skills and relatable stage presence\, as well as an achingly honest song writing style that makes each audience member feel like they are the only people in the room to hear her stories. That song writing style saw her take out the Blues category in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition; a worldwide comp entered by over 18\,000 entries from 20 countries. A regular festival player\, Hailey has graced the stages of Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival four times and Woodford Folk Festival three times just to name a few.

The Northern Folk were a stand-out act at last year’s Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival\, making a mountain of new fans and deservedly so.\nWith support sets from Sherri Parry and Deer Prudence\, this will be a truly special night on the tunes! \nAbout our artists: \nThe Northern Folk are an 11-piece indie-folk outfit riding a wave of momentum from the release of their self-titled debut LP in 2015. Hailing from Albury\, this collection of like-minded pals have been hitting the Australian highways to spread their sound. Full of energy and perfect for boppers and tail-waggers alike\, The Northern Folk top warm harmonies with big horn sections off with groovy bass lines\, and will be sure to have you foot-stomping and humming away. \nSherri Parry – Sherri is an 18 year old local Bendigo artist who’s been writing and performing her songs at a level well beyond her years. Her youthful dynamic stage presence\, soothing voice and guitar work showcase her passion for song writing and music. Lyrics formed from life experiences and melodies strung together with spirit give her music its own distinct style.  \nDeer Prudence – Deer Prudence are an acoustic duo\, comprised of close friends\, Mariah McCarthy and Georgia Delves. The duo elegantly uses the seemingly effortless harmonies intertwined with their own style of Americana/ folk/pop song writing.\nSince forming from the humble beginnings of their high school music class\, Deer Prudence are no stranger to the stage\, performing at the Spring Fling Festival 2014\, Brunswick Music Festival 2015\, Anglesea Festival 2016 and Wintermoon Festival 2016\, Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival and have launched their debut CD in February 2017 to overwhelmingly positive aclaim.  \nThe Old Church on the Hill is located on the corner of Harkness and Russell Streets\, Quarry Hill\, Bendigo.\nThe Singer/Songwriter Showcase events\, staged at the Old Church by the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival crew on a semi-regular basis\, are an opportunity to enjoy a House Concert vibe in a public venue.  The door charge is generally $15 for adults ($10 concession) and\, although refreshments are available for sale\, the focus is on THE MUSIC. He has written for various magazines and newspapers including The Daily Telegraph\, The Guardian\, the Mail on Sunday and Rolling StoneHis first records were made during the 1970’s for David Geffen of Asylum Records in Los Angeles and he toured the USA and the UK.He revitalised his song writing in the late 1980’s when he worked in France as lyricist for producer Franck Langolf [Vanessa Paradis] and helped brother Mick out on the Stones acclaimed albums “Dirty Work” and then later “Steel Wheels.”Chris decided to then concentrate on his own material and the result was the critically acclaimed Sequel C.D. ‘Atcha!’ in 1994\, a mix of Cajun style with Chris’s individual brand of song writing. DESCRIPTION:After another brilliant November Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival in 2016\, 2017’s supporting events will again be limited in number but packed with even more fresh talent and brilliant music\, at some of our favourite local venues – starting with the first Showcase/Fundraiser event of the new year at The Rifle Brigade Hotel on Sunday Feb 19th. \nThe packed list of acts confirmed to perform at this Showcase event includes some of Bendigo’s best\, along with some fresh faces from the larger blues\, soul\, jazz and original music circuits who’ve put their respective hands up to support our not-for-profit community music festival.  Here’s some of the acts playing the Carpark Stage on Feb 19: The Deans of Soul\, Wilson & White\, The Northern Folk\, Sweet Felicia and The Honeytones\, Skip & The Lost & Found Dept.\, Alister Turrill\, Erica Hawkey Band\, Gravy Boat and Mon Shelford Band (with more to be announced).  On the Balcony Stage\, we’ll be hosting the talents of: Geoffrey Williams\, Ben J Carter\, Luke Watt\, Doggin’ it (Sydney)\, The Old Married Couple\, Pip Cowan and more! \nAs always\, these artists are donating their time and talents\, as do the Festival’s volunteer committee and crew\, to help kick start the kitty to pay for the Festival itself\, to be held on November 9-12\, 2017. \nTo continue to fund this predominantly free festival\, your support and assistance is needed. So spread the word and bring a posse to the Rifle Brigade Hotel on Feb 19th and help grow the burgeoning music scene we’ve managed to revitalise together over the last half decade in Central Victoria.  \nOn behalf of our local venues\, local and visiting artists\, and all of us who enjoy a wide range of live music to choose from on a weekly basis\, ‘Thank You’ for your ongoing support of grass-roots music events! \nTickets for the February 19th Showcase event are available at the door on the day and are $15 for adults\, $5 for under-18s (with under-12s free). \n The live music will start at 12pm sharp and continue through till 8pm.
