DESCRIPTION:The Saturday Night Blues Tram (as part of this year’s Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival) will be extra special\, with return of US bluesman Travis Bowlin and Queensland songstress Shukura Chapman! \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being suitably entertained by these two great acts: \nTravis Bowlin:\nBowlin is an international Blues/Rock/Roots artist currently  based Nashville\, TN and had a top 20 song for Blues/Rock radio from nearly 15 weeks. “See You Again” debut at #3 on the Roots Music Report for Blues/Rock and #5 on iTunes New Blues\, After hearing from his publicist Beties Brown that “See You Again” had been recognized by the Grammy Foundation for potention Grammy Nomination for American Roots Song/Performance\, Travis set out on the road. 2016 was an amazing year; he was able to share the stage with such greats as Ricky Skaggs\, Cyril Neville & Royal Southern Brotherhood\, Future Man\, Eugene Highway Bridges\, John Mayhell\, Samantha Fish\, War\, and Tommy Castro\, touring half the United States. Late 2016 he embarked on his first international tour to Australia to headline the Bendigo Blues & Roots Festival and won over hundreds of new and dedicated fans in the process. \nShukura Chapman:\nShukura is a UK born\, NZ raised\, Australia based singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist with a powerhouse voice. Influenced by Alabama Shakes\, Anderson. Paak\, Lianne La Havas & Matt Corby\, Shukura’s sound is a refreshing blend of soul\, roots & blues.  In the studio she lays down drums\, vocals\, guitar & ukulele on her records & her live shows feature soulful vocals over live-looped percussion & guitar layers. In 2016 she released her debut single One by One & EP Rearview\, as well as playing Caxton Street Festival and opening Brisbane Festival as the first live music act. From the dry desert landscape where he penned his anthemic Solid Rock to the wild rivers of Tasmania\, Let the Franklin Flow he’s created a uniquely Australian voice and traversed a vast landscape in his travels. \nNow he travels to Central Victoria\, accompanied by a band of old friends and accomplished musicians: Rory McDougall (Drums)\, Ruben Shannon(Bass)\, Bruce Haymes (Keys)\, John Hudson( Guitar/Dobro) and Ewen Baker (Fiddle/Mandolin) along with some very special guests\, for a special night of music with old friends and new.   \nThis retrospective concert is exclusive to the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival and will pay homage to Howard’s thirteen albums and 40 year musical journey of singing\, writing and journeying the globe\, from campfires to concert halls. \nYIRRMAL AND THE MILIYWUTJ \nYirrmal is the Youngblood (the title of his new debut EP) of the next generation and he is setting an example of living in two worlds\, balancing between traditional and contemporary cultures. \nHe is an inspiring songwriter and guitarist with a powerful voice\, singing songs about life and culture in both his first language of Yolngu Matha and English. Yirrmal fuses traditional and contemporary arrangements and sings with feeling and depth beyond his years. \nHe openly shares his identity\, spirit and connection to the land and engages the hearts of those that are lucky enough to hear him. Yirrmal will perform with his three-piece ‘Yirrmal and the Miliyawutj’\, giving a rocking edge to his songs. ‘Miliyawutj’ is a Yolngu word that refers to fertile waters where the fresh and salt meet\, inferring a balance between two entities. These powerful live performances are something every Australian should experience. \nHAT FITZ & CARA\nHat Fitz and Cara can in no way be mistaken for a dainty duo. Artists like Ed Sheeran and Tash Sultana have pushed the once misunderstood performance technique into the lime light. Simon Wright is a master of the tools and has spent the last 2 years touring the world with his loopstation on his never ending tour dubbed #looptheworld. Watch him effortlessly lay down a full band sound with vocal and guitar layering and beatbox rhythms. Seamlessly weaving between soul\, funk\, blues and hip hop. \nMiss Whiskey:\nMISS WHISKEY is a Melbourne-based blues duo putting their raw and original stamp on harmonica driven swamp blues. As 2015 Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society Blues duo of the year\, they represented Melbourne at the 2016 International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee.  With Anna Scionti on guitar and vocals and Julie Noble on harmonica\, this gritty female duo play classic blues standards from the greats like Junior Wells\, Slim Harpo and Big Mama Thornton. Matched with a one-man-band approach to his performances through the use of percussive elements of the guitar\, stomp box\, tambourine and creating loop layers – this together has become the cornerstone of Matt’s live blend of blues\, roots & folk-stirred music\, which has been heard on numerous Australian stages and festival line-ups and at iconic venues.   \nThe Old Church on the Hill is located on the corner of Harkness and Russell Streets\, Quarry Hill\, Bendigo.\nThe Singer/Songwriter Showcase events\, staged there by the BB&RMF crew on a semi-regular basis\, are an opportunity to enjoy a House Concert vibe in a public venue.
