SUMMARY:Music in the Park - Hailey Calvert & The Northern Folk
DESCRIPTION:Pack your deck chairs or a picnic rug and bring along some nibbles to enjoy a night among the stars with a FREE concert at the Bendigo Botanic Gardens! \nHAILEY CALVERT\n6.30pm – 7.20pm\nIt’s stopped people in their tracks in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall\, had her sing backing vocals for Michael Bublé \, taken her overseas and all over Australia and been shared in wonder by the U.K’s Passenger on Facebook. Hailey Calvert’s voice is undeniably incredible. Its that warm and breathtaking blues voice together with impressive guitar skills and relatable stage presence\, as well as an achingly honest song writing style that makes each audience member feel like they are the only people in the room to hear her stories. That song writing style saw her take out the Blues category in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition; a worldwide comp entered by over 18\,000 entries from 20 countries. A regular festival player\, Hailey has graced the stages of Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival four times and Woodford Folk Festival three times just to name a few. \nTHE NORTHERN FOLK\n7.40pm – 8.30pm\nDubbed Albury’s “11-headed folk monster”\, The Northern Folk are now based in Melbourne and arrived at the festival in 2016 relatively unknown to many pundits. Their energy\, big sound\, and sizable line-up\, flexible to the various settings\, quickly had festival goers chatting about the memorable shows. After various return trips to the area over the elapsed time\, these eleven musical ambitionists are back with their unique brand of folk/pop/stomp/rock\, combining roaring brass and bashful bass with soaring vocals\, seven-part harmonies\, and unnecessary auxiliary percussion.

SUMMARY:Colin Hay - Fierce Mercy Tour 2018
DESCRIPTION:Scottish born singer-songwriter Colin Hay has today announced he is returning to Australia with his band for an East Coast tour commencing on 31 January at the Tivoli in Brisbane. \nColin Hay\, best known as the frontman for Australian hit makers Men at Work\, has received renewed acclaim for his troubadour-style solo career with the release of his acclaimed new album\, Fierce Mercy. \nFierce Mercy\, Hay’s 13th solo album\, was recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville and mixed by Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton\, Jack White) and Gordon Hammond (Buddy Miller\, Don Williams). The album explores themes of love and loss\, mortality\, and even the odd UFO sighting\, but always with the singular perspective and insight that define Hay’s work. \nColin returns to Australia with his US Band – on guitar\, tres and vocals\, Cuban\, San Miguel Perez\, with fellow Cuban Yosmel Montejo on bass and vocals – Scheila Gonzalez on keyboard\, flute\, sax and vocals – Cecilia Noel\, percussion and vocals – and Jimmy Branly on drums. This smorgasbord of international flavours\, added to Men at Work and Colin Hay songs\, will delight audiences with Latin infused rhythms and sweet harmonies. \nColin Hay said\, “Of course I am excited to be coming down to Australia\, and playing both new and old songs\, in the heat of the summer in January and February. How could I not be\, I will be accompanied by my LA based band of immigrants\, hailing from Cuba\, Guatemala and Peru. By now it’s more or less a family affair\, and they are my favourite people\, both to play and tour with. Step out and come see us\, you won’t regret it.” \n2016 was something of a breakout year for this career artist and included performances on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon\, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and ABC’s Greatest Hits; sharing the stage with Of Monsters and Men\, Milk Carton Kids\, Choir Choir Choir!\, Kings of Leon; being publicly cited as an influence by artists as distinct as James Hetfield (Metallica)\, Jeremiah Fraites (The Lumineers)\, Troy Sanders (Mastodon) and The Infamous Stringdusters; as well as the completion of a documentary film about his career entitled Waiting for My Real Life\, named for one of his best known solo recordings. Now finding himself in the unprecedented place of having both ’80s fame and indie credibility\, it’s possible that Hay has delivered the defining album of his solo career with Fierce Mercy. \nAlongside the thoughtful storytelling in his songs\, Hay’s shows are peppered with\nhilarious anecdotes from his\, often surreal\, experiences in the world of rock music.

SUMMARY:Bonjour Holiday presents the return of Harry Manx
DESCRIPTION:“Harry’s real skill lays in creating a rare musical place where blues\, country\, folk and Indian classical music co-exist as some spirit force”. Downbeat \nCanadian Harry Manx has been one of the most successful international touring musicians ever to grace stages in Australia. He will be returning in 2018 to perform at Port Fairy Folk Festival \, The Blue Mountains Music Festival and Byron Bluesfest as well as side shows in Sydney \,Melbourne\, Adelaide\, Brisbane\, Canberra and Perth. This deeply original multi-instrumentalist has entertained audiences in more than 10 extensive tours since 2001. \nThe explanation is simple. The result is an expressive\, moving and unforgettable new world. \nHis unique toolbox is a fascinating range of conventional acoustic and electric guitars\, banjo\, harmonica\, stomp box\, and the Mohan Veena\, created by Harry’s Indian mentor Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. His award-winning songs ‘create musical short stories that wed the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas’. \nA worldwide festival favorite\, Harry’s 15 albums and ceaseless touring have seen him earn a slew of Maple Leaf\, Juno and Canadian Folk Awards\, nominations\, and accolades from musicians and fans alike. \n“Watching Harry play tonight I feel like I learned something new…….” \nBruce Springsteen\, @ the International Guitar Festival\, New York City \nFebruary 2014 saw the release of Harry’s 12th studio recording – ‘Ohm Suite Ohm’. It features Harry’s ‘Bollywood electric slide guitar’\, instrumentals\, original songs\, a cover of John Coltrane’s ‘A Love Supreme’\, plus guest vocalists and international collaborators. \nIn 2015 came his first instrumental album called “20 Strings and the Truth”.
