SUMMARY:Blues & Roots Summer Showcase/Fundraiser at The Rifle
DESCRIPTION:After another bumper November Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival in 2017\, this year’s supporting events will again be limited in number but packed with even more fresh talent and brilliant music\, at some of our favourite local venues – starting with the first Showcase/Fundraiser event of the new year at The Rifle Brigade Hotel on Sunday Feb 25th. \nThe packed list of acts to perform at this Showcase event includes some of Bendigo’s best\, along with some fresh faces from the larger blues\, soul\, jazz and original music circuits who’ve put their respective hands up to support our not-for-profit community music festival – across two stages\, in the famous Rifle Carpark and the sensational balcony overlooking Bendigo’s enviable arts precinct. \nAs always\, these artists are donating their time and talents\, as do the Festival’s volunteer committee and crew\, to help kick start the kitty to pay for the Festival itself\, to be held on November 8-11\, 2018. \nTo continue to fund this predominantly free festival\, your support and assistance is needed. So spread the word and bring a posse to the Rifle Brigade Hotel on Feb 25th and help grow the burgeoning music scene we’ve managed to revitalise together over the last few years in Central Victoria. \nOn behalf of our local venues\, local and visiting artists\, and all of us who enjoy a wide range of live music to choose from on a weekly basis\, ‘Thank You’ for your ongoing support of grass-roots music events! \nTickets for the February 25th Showcase event are available at the door on the day and are $15 for adults\, $5 for under-18s (with under-12s free). \nThe live music will start at 11:30am sharp and continue through till 9pm.

SUMMARY:Bonjour Holiday presents the return of Harry Manx
DESCRIPTION:“Harry’s real skill lays in creating a rare musical place where blues\, country\, folk and Indian classical music co-exist as some spirit force”. Downbeat \nCanadian Harry Manx has been one of the most successful international touring musicians ever to grace stages in Australia. He will be returning in 2018 to perform at Port Fairy Folk Festival \, The Blue Mountains Music Festival and Byron Bluesfest as well as side shows in Sydney \,Melbourne\, Adelaide\, Brisbane\, Canberra and Perth. This deeply original multi-instrumentalist has entertained audiences in more than 10 extensive tours since 2001. \nThe explanation is simple. Harry’s created his own genre\, often referred to as the ‘Mystissippi Blues’. His mesmerizing sound is an organic fusion of eastern musical traditions with the Blues. The result is an expressive\, moving and unforgettable new world. \nHis unique toolbox is a fascinating range of conventional acoustic and electric guitars\, banjo\, harmonica\, stomp box\, and the Mohan Veena\, created by Harry’s Indian mentor Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. His award-winning songs ‘create musical short stories that wed the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas’. \nA worldwide festival favorite\, Harry’s 15 albums and ceaseless touring have seen him earn a slew of Maple Leaf\, Juno and Canadian Folk Awards\, nominations\, and accolades from musicians and fans alike. \n“Watching Harry play tonight I feel like I learned something new…….” \nBruce Springsteen\, @ the International Guitar Festival\, New York City \nFebruary 2014 saw the release of Harry’s 12th studio recording – ‘Ohm Suite Ohm’. It features Harry’s ‘Bollywood electric slide guitar’\, instrumentals\, original songs\, a cover of John Coltrane’s ‘A Love Supreme’\, plus guest vocalists and international collaborators. \nIn 2015 came his first instrumental album called “20 Strings and the Truth”. And for this 2018 tour \, he’ll be showcasing his latest album “Faith Lift”. This new recording features Harry playing a number of instruments accompanied by the Sydney Strings Quartet.

SUMMARY:The Bean Project + Georgie Currie at The Old Church on the Hill
DESCRIPTION:Melbourne’s award winning brass-clad quintet The Bean Project are touring the country in support of ‘Naked Trees’ throughout 2018\, and the album is available on all digital platforms and via their website.\nFrom the eastern suburbs of Melbourne\, Australia come The Bean Project\, a vibrant brass-folk quintet blending the raw sounds of folk\, jazz and singer-songwriter – most aptly described as ‘the odd marriage of James Taylor and The Cat Empire’.\nIn 2014 The Bean Project emerged as a duo\, making a name for themselves playing locally\, touring the east coast\, then releasing their debut EP in 2015. The Bean Project were named the Folk Alliance of Australia’s 2016 Artist of the Year and grew into a five-piece band\, touring nationally and performing at festivals including Port Fairy Folk Festival\, The National Folk Festival and Folk Alliance International (USA).\nIn June 2017\, The Bean Project teamed up with David Carr at Rangemaster Studios to record their debut album ‘Naked Trees.’ Like a good whisky\, ‘Naked Trees’ is strong\, woody and rich\, makes you think about your life and gives you a bubbling desire to dance. Swaying from enthusiastic groovy numbers such as ‘Gaps’ to tear-jerking singer-songwriter ballads such as ‘Never Been More Alone\,’ the album is a diverse collection of 10 songs inspired by jazz\, funk\, country and pop\, played by an equally as diverse cast of musicians from varying musical sensibilities. \nIt’s exciting to have The Bean Project back in Bendigo after they made a lot of fans at last year’s Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival – it’s extra exciting to have Georgie Currie (of The Northern Folk) as the chief support on this show with an opening set to be performed by Pat Ward. \nDoors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start and the door charge is only $15. Don’t be late! \nThe Old Church on the Hill is located on the corner of Harkness and Russell Streets\, Quarry Hill\, Bendigo.\nThe Singer/Songwriter Showcase events\, staged at the Old Church by the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival crew on a semi-regular basis\, are an opportunity to enjoy a House Concert vibe in a public venue. The door charge is generally $15 for adults\, under 12s free and\, although drinks are available for sale\, the focus is on THE MUSIC. If your conversation is more important to you than other people’s enjoyment of the artists’ performance\, please take it outside.\nProceeds from drink sales go to supporting the Old Church crew and their many worthy initiatives. Sound production is provided by R&J DJ & Entertainment and the door takings are able to be shared between the performers with thanks to our valued sponsors picking up the costs that would normally come out of the door.\nWe look forward to your company for an intimate concert experience like you’ve likely never experienced before.

SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Emilee South + Jarrod Shaw
DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting two fan favourites on our April Blues Tram\, Emilee South and Jarrod Shaw! \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts: \nEmilee South:\nWith powerful vocals and fierce guitar playing\, Emilee South hollers throwback rock’n’roll\, with hints of voodoo\, unrequited love\, and small-town guilt.\nFollowing her first release\, ‘Aloha\, Au Revoir’\, Emilee has been touring as a two-piece\, with baritone-slinging Matt Dixon.\nThe pair have been making interstate debuts with shows & festivals in Sydney\, Adelaide and Perth\, as well as playing support to the likes of Ruby Boots\, WILSN\, Skyscraper Stan & The Commission Flats\, and James Kenyon.\nBack in Melbourne\, they were straight in to the studio to record Emilee’s sophomore EP\, ‘MOTEL’.\nRecorded live over two days at The Aviary Recording Studio\, ‘MOTEL’ features Matt Dixon on Baritone Guitar\, Josh Barber on Drums and Ben Franz on Double Bass.\nProducing a sound much darker\, a little dirtier and a lot more rock’n’roll than her debut.\nWith a slew of special guest vocalists\, such as Al Parkinson\, Broads and Skyscraper Stan\, the songs lay comfortably on a bed of velvet backing vocals.\nFollowing the release of the feverish first single\, ‘Howl’\, ‘MOTEL’ was released with a bang through Fever Shake Records in May 2017. \nJarrod Shaw:\nJarrod Shaw possesses a passion and appreciation for blues music that becomes obvious from the moment the first note sounds. He delivers a soulful blues inspired show\, performed with conviction.\nJarrod was born and raised in country Victoria\, down the dirt roads of the Macedon Ranges. He taught himself to play guitar listening to the renowned blues greats\, as well as the icons of the Australian and local Melbourne blues scene.\nPerforming countless solo gigs has aided Jarrod in developing a musical style of his own. He blends his unique guitar approach lying somewhere between piedmont fingerstyle and the blues of the delta\, with a powerful voice often described as belying his years. At times he even wails away on a racked blues harp – all at once without missing a beat. If you close your eyes you might even believe there’s more than one person performing… \nSaturday April 14th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Emilee South + Jarrod Shaw\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $35 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO.
