SUMMARY:Julian James "Silver Spade" tour at The Gold Dust Lounge
DESCRIPTION:Tickets at the door – Featuring Local Legend! BILL BARBER \nEverything about Julian James and his new album ‘Silver Spade’ shouts the love of traditional blues for all to hear. His style is rooted in the old-time acoustic strummers of a bygone era\, and he joins next generation artists such as Larkin Poe\, Blind Boy Paxton and Pokey LaFarge in bringing authentic new voices to a style that has endured for 100 years. \nStill in his twenties\, Julian James has spent most of his adult life on the road\, first as front man of Blues festival heroes ‘Catfish Voodoo’ and on his own. ‘Silver Spades’ is the second album in his catalogue as a solo artist and Julian brings the experience of a seasoned performer and a fresh perspective to this set of traditional songs by artists like Ma Rainey and early Muddy Waters\, as well as originals like the title track Silver Spade.\nTales of love\, loss and debauchery from 2018 sit happily with their ancestors from the 1930’s as James deliver his laconic vintage drawl from some porch or other. \nSays Julian of his love of old blues:\n“Catfish Voodoo played straight Chicago Blues\, so I started with Muddy Waters\, Howlin’ Wolf\, and Willie Dixon; and then when I went out solo\, I just kept going back in time and discovering people like Mississippi John Hurt\, Leadbelly\, Son House and knew that’s what I wanted to do.” \n‘Silver Spades’ is available from all good music outlets from April 1st. \nwww.julianjames.com.au

SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Lily & King + Alister Turrill
DESCRIPTION:Two of the most exciting acts on the Roots and Folk Music festival scene in Australia\, performing The Blues Tram together on Saturday 11 May 2019 – fast rising guitarist/singer/songwriter Alister Turrill and the always rambunctious and engaging Lily & King! \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts: \nLily and King:\nLily and King are a quirky\, musical junkyard from Melbourne. Their aim is to use all of their limbs for making music at the one time. Lily and King create rousingly catchy music that sits somewhere between a captivating 40’s nightclub routine and the raw\, rambunctious spirit of New Orleans street buskers.\nDixieland punk\, junkyard blues\, sailor songs\, weird carnie show tunes and the odd bit of curious pop\, their music is joyful\, beautiful and a bit dirty and wicked too.\nWith trombone\, sweet and sassy vocals\, toy piano\, guitar\, half a drum kit and an abundance of foot stomping\, their melodies are infused with wild exuberance and joie de vivre – a Lily and King gig is a truly wild and joyful experience. \nAlister Turrill Music:\nAlister is a songwriter of the highest order and a sign that the future of Australian blues is in good hands.” – Lloyd Spiegel\, Premier Endorsee Cole Clark Guitars.\nIt would be a generalisation to group Queenscliff’s Alister Turrill with other young roots players. His playing style blends a true form of blues with complex song writing seldom seen.\nThe past two years have seen the new Melbourne resident at his busiest and best yet with his first East Coast Tour (including a well-received slot on the Roaming Buskers Stage at Byron Bay Bluesfest 2017) and first European shows.\nBBRMF 2018 will once again see Alister joined by dear friend and drumming extraordinaire\, Toby Johnson\, for a series of energetic and demanding performances.\nHonest\, Flawed\, Gravel-Throated Folkin’ Blues awaits. \nSaturday May 11th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Lily & King + Alister Turrill\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $35 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO. SUMMARY:Geoff Achison & The Souldiggers 25 year anniversary Bendigo Show
DESCRIPTION:Geoff Achison & The Souldiggers are celebrating the 25th year since their formation and subsequent explosion onto the live music scene – and they’re bringing the show to Bendigo\, with thanks to the All Seasons Hotel and the crew from Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival. Get your tickets now for what will be a magnificent show from Australia’s patron saint of the Blues\, along with the best rhythm section in the country! \nLocal firebrand Bill Barber will perform the opening set from 8:30pm. \nFrom the gritty Melbourne pub circuit to the old Juke Joints of the American south\, 13th century Ale Houses in England and even German castles\, Geoff Achison has taken The Souldiggers around the world. To celebrate 25 years with the group Geoff will be\nperforming a series of gigs with The Souldiggers including tours to the US and UK.\n‘The Souldiggers’ moniker was born from a theme song Geoff had written for his new solo project in the early 90’s. Battling the grueling cycle of relentless travel\, heavy workloads and little pay\, the band\nfeatured a constantly changing line-up. Geoff took inspiration from British bandleader John Mayall whose ‘Bluesbreakers group had a similarly floating membership. Geoff decided it was more\nexpedient to travel solo and hire local players in each region. The concept worked and The Souldiggers now boasts line-ups across three continents with Australian\, US & UK Souldiggers. \nBeginings: Geoff Achison began his music career with his father’s dance band playing rudimentary rhythm guitar at local town halls in central Victoria. His first paid gig netted him $10 which was the very same amount he’d receive for riding his bike 8km’s to a farm and working from dawn to dusk.\nHe took a leap of faith to the big city of Melbourne\, determined to make a career of music\, arriving at his new digs in a clapped out Holden HQ\, a Gibson Les Paul guitar and $40 in his pocket.\nHe turned up at gigs with guitar in hand and soon began to attract attention. By 1989 he was playing lead guitar with legendary bluesman Dutch Tilders.\nAfter several years on the road with Dutch\, Geoff released his debut recording of original songs\, Big Machine in 1994. The following year he won the ‘Albert King Award’ at the prestigious International\nBlues Challenge in Memphis. By the year 2000 he had garnered some of the best musicians in the business counted amongst his world-wide team. Mal Logan (Renee Geyer/LRB)\, Roger McLachlan\n(LRB/Stars) Gerry Pantazis (Tommy Emmanuel/Stylus) Richard Tankard (Broderick Smith) Yonrico Scott (Derek Trucks Band) Tyler Greenwell (Tedeschi-Trucks Band) Sam Kelly (Cymande/Gary\nMoore) & Adrian Keating (Sydney Opera Orchestra) among them.\nWith variations of this group Geoff has released over a dozen studio and live recordings including two live concert DVDs. They have been named ‘Band Of The Year’ more than once and most recently\npicked up 5 ‘Chain’ blues music awards in 2017 for ‘Another Mile\, Another Minute’. \nGreat food and drink\, superb hospitality and a magnificent musical treat awaits\, all in the comfort of one of Bendigo’s biggest and absolute best venues – the All Seasons Hotel. \nEntry is only $20 – for bookings or other enquiries\, please contact the kind staff at All Seasons Hotel Bendigo on (03) 5443 8166 or via email: reception@allseasonsbendigo.com.au

SUMMARY:Kelly Brouhaha at The Old Church on the Hill
DESCRIPTION:After making a big splash previously at BB&RMF\, Kelly Brouhaha is back in Bendigo on 15 June\, as part of her 2019 album launch tour. And she’s a welcome addition to roster of brilliant concerts being staged this year at The Old Church on the Hill. \nShortlisted for the Americana Music Prize in 2018\, Kelly Brouhaha’s brand of americana soul is as real as it gets. The South Australian songwriter & multi-instrumentalist spends most of the year around a campfire\, travelling in her 1992 Toyota Hiace Van called “Pamela Vanderson”. \nHer debut self titled album tells the story after leaving her marriage and mortgage behind in the pursuit of happiness. The single “40\,000 Star Hotel”\, co-written with Aleyce Simmonds is a big\, ballsy\, freedom-esque blues which captures the heart of the Australian landscape and the lure of off-grid living. \nChoosing to pursue the road less travelled after learning of her father’s alzheimers diagnosis – this album captures heartbreak and grief in a way that leaves you breathless. A diverse first offering from an artist you absolutely need to hear. \nYou cannot put her unique style into a box; from big blues\, to soulful country\, it is real and raw and vulnerable. \nIt’s exciting to have Kelly back in Bendigo\, especially with brilliant local support acts Luke Harrington and Steph Bitter. \nDoors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start and the door charge is only $15. Don’t be late!

SUMMARY:Georgie Currie EP Launch
DESCRIPTION:Georgie Currie is an Albury bred singer-songwriter bringing her debut EP ‘flowers for your worst days’ to Bendigo. \nGeorgie is no stranger to Bendigo after having visited the town and the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival many a time with ten-piece folk/rock band The Northern Folk. \nGeorgie’s solo project is an entirely different beast. Her songs blend the broken\, intimate fears of youth with a vocal intensity beyond her years. Lyrically and harmonically mature\, she paints portraits remarkable as much for their emotional power as their vulnerability. \nSpecial guests TBA!

SUMMARY:Blues Tram w/Liz Frencham + Alawishus Jones & The Outright Lies
DESCRIPTION:It’ll be a jazzy ol’ Blues Tram on Saturday 10 August 2019\, when the incredible Liz Frencham returns to the rails for only the second time and ragtime rascals Alawishus Jones & The Outright Lies endeavour to keep their musical mischief to a minimum (if you can believe it). \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two great acts: \nLiz Frencham:\n2018 Troubadour Foundation Artist of the Year\, and perennial festival presence Liz Frencham is stepping back into centre stage with a swag of new songs along with favourites from her Jigzag and Frencham Smith days. Old blues; Maybe some pre blues stuff that contains elements essential to the birth of blues like work song\, field holler & ragged time; Mostly what you can expect though is 3 guys having a lot of fun; Guitar\, drums\, washboard\, bass\, trumpet\, harmonica & ukulele; Stories and anecdotes that could have historical significance or might be outright lies! \nSaturday August 10th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Liz Frencham + Alawishus Jones & The Outright Lies\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $39 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or online here: https://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO.
