SUMMARY:Jojo Smith w/Lucie Thorne & Hamish Stuart live @the Old Church on the Hill
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 21st May 2017\nOld Church on the Hill\nJO JO SMITH\, LUCIE THORNE & HAMISH STUART\nwith opening set from Grecian Holland\n4 – 7pm\n$19.50 presale / $20 at the door if available\nhttps://www.trybooking.com/PHIP \nJO JO SMITH celebrates her 50th year as a performing musician! with very special guests LUCIE THORNE & HAMISH STUART \nJO JO SMITH is one of Australia’s greatest musical treasures\, a sexagenarian pocket-rocket\, soul-singing\, groove-driving tour de force and 2017 marks her 50th year in the biz. To celebrate this extraordinary\, generous life of music-making\, Jo Jo is hitting the road with her dear friends and musical comrades LUCIE THORNE & HAMISH STUART\, playing dozens of their favourite intimate venues across the land – including The Old Church on the Hill on Sunday 21st May. \nA radical exponent of the power of love and music – and certainly under-known given all the heavyweights from across the decades and genres who she’s worked with and influenced – Jo Jo Smith has a somewhat cult status\, deeply revered by fans and peers alike. As Thorne puts it\, “I sure don’t know any half-arsed Jo Jo fans. You’ve either experienced the joy and wonder that is being in the same room as this woman singing and playing\, or…you haven’t heard her yet!” \nLucie Thorne & Jo Jo Smith first met nearly a decade ago\, and became fast friends and huge fans of each other’s work. Lucie has been recording and touring in a sensational duo collaboration with legendary drummer Hamish Stuart for nearly a decade too\, quietly carving out their singularly poetic spacious sound. Jo Jo and Hamish have worked together numerous times throughout the past 30 years. The undeniable creative camaraderie and chemistry between all three artists will underpin the live format of the tour featuring Smith\, Thorne and Stuart in various combinations. This tour brings together three of our country’s finest talents for a series of unmissable\, powerful\, joyful\, intimate concerts that are bound to be the stuff of more legendary stories in Jo Jo Smith’s full musical life. \n“Jo Jo Smith drops jaws and melts hearts with every performance” Colin Thompson\, Bendigo Blues Festival Director \n“Jo Jo has been an inspiration to myself and many other musicians in Australia for many years” Renee Geyer \n“I’ve been lucky enough to grow up with Jo Jo’s music. But I do remember a specific moment at an intimate show when it hit me how brilliant she was. There was this deft capturing of the crowd with her rich vocals\, they flowed over us almost visibly (like amber\, like honey\, like the love light she sings about!) Then prickles of joy. I realised I was in the presence of a master. And boy did it feel good” Ella Hooper \n“Jo Jo Smith is a true soul singer. She sings soul music. She sings with and through her soul. Smith has a mighty weapon in her voice\, she reserves it’s power striking only when necessary” Marty Jones\, Rhythms Magazine \n“Thorne writes some of the most simple and beautiful songs you will hear” **** The Age \nhttp://www.jojosmithsoul.com\nhttp://www.luciethorne.com

SUMMARY:The Blues Tram w/Hailey Calvert + Luke Watt
DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting two of the classiest acts you’re likely to hear anywhere on our May 2017 Tram\, a soulful powerhouse from Queensland in Hailey Calvert (w/Jason Cameron) and a bluesy folky singer/songwriter from all over\, transplanted to a very thankful Central Victoria – Luke Watt; \nEnjoy the sights of Bendigo’s architecturally stunning CBD from on board the sensationally restored vintage W Class tram\, while being serenaded by two amazing acts: \nHailey Calvert:\nOwning a bluesy\, rich voice and fluid guitar style has earned Brisbane’s Hailey Calvert many fans as well as turning her into a festival favourite. Two EP’s\, one album and countless charismatic live shows into her career\, Hailey is an unforgettable performer showing no signs of slowing down. \nLuke Watt:\nDescribed by ABC National as “raw and mercurial\, the real deal\,” and by Lloyd Spiegel as “one of my favourite artists” folk/blues guitarist and songwriter Luke Watt has recently release his third album “Wild Graces”.\nDespite the experiences of touring throughout Europe and the U.S\, Luke’s new record is inspired by tales based much closer to home\, picking and sliding his way through stories of failed gold diggers\, small town murder and cranky old men! \nSaturday May 27th\nBlues Tram\, feat: Hailey Calvert w/Jason Cameron + Luke Watt\nDeparting Central Deborah Goldmine (76 Violet Street) at 2pm\, returning 4:15pm.\nTix: $35 from Bendigo Visitor Centre 1800 813 513 or http://www.bendigotourism.com/tours/bendigo-cbd/bendigo-blues-tram\nFollow The Blues Tram here: https://www.facebook.com/TheBluesTram \nStrictly no BYO – drinks and snacks available for purchase. \nThe Blues Tram is organised and staged by Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival Inc\, a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. \nPlease Note:\nThis is a music appreciation event. For the enjoyment of all patrons\, any rowdy or loud behaviour will not be tolerated. Event management reserves the right to refuse admission or evict patrons if requests to manage behaviour are not complied with; in this unlikely event\, tickets of offenders will be forfeited and no refund will be available.

SUMMARY:Hailey Calvert at Handle Bar
DESCRIPTION:Hailey Calvert:\nIt’s stopped people in their tracks in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall\, had her sing backing vocals for Michael Bublé \, taken her overseas and all over Australia and been shared in wonder by the U.K’s Passenger on Facebook. Hailey Calvert’s voice is undeniably incredible. Its that warm and breathtaking blues voice together with impressive guitar skills and relatable stage presence\, as well as an achingly honest song writing style that makes each audience member feel like they are the only people in the room to hear her stories. That song writing style saw her take out the Blues category in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition; a worldwide comp entered by over 18\,000 entries from 20 countries. A regular festival player\, Hailey has graced the stages of Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival four times and Woodford Folk Festival three times just to name a few.
