SUMMARY:Blues & Roots Winter Showcase/Fundraiser at The Hotel Shamrock
DESCRIPTION:After 2018 gave us the most successful and exciting Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival to date\, this year’s supporting events will again be limited in number but packed with more fresh talent and brilliant music\, at some of our favorite local venues – continuing with our Winter Showcase/Fundraiser event at The Hotel Shamrock on Sunday July 7th. \nThe packed list of acts to perform at this Showcase event includes some of Bendigo’s best\, along with some fresh faces from the larger blues\, soul\, jazz\, folk and original music circuits who’ve put their respective hands up to support our not-for-profit community music festival\, in the opulent Federation Room and the “Yard Bird” balcony bar and kitchen overlooking Bendigo’s beautiful Rosalind Park\, Charing Cross and Pall Mall. \nIn addition\, and in keeping with the New Orleans vibe provided by such a majestic venue\, local funk duo Honk Tank will host a busking/street-jamming stage outside the foyer entrance in Williamson Street. So come along and be part of the fun\, as we host music across three stages at this year’s Winter Showcase! \nAs always\, these artists are donating their time and talents\, as do the Festival’s volunteer committee and crew\, to help kick build the kitty to pay for the Festival itself\, to be held on November 7-10\, 2019. \nTo continue to fund this predominantly free festival\, your support and assistance is needed. So spread the word and bring a posse to the Hotel Shamrock on July 7th and help grow the burgeoning music scene we’ve managed to revitalise together over the last few years in Central Victoria. \nOn behalf of our local venues\, local and visiting artists\, and all of us who enjoy a wide range of live music to choose from on a weekly basis\, ‘Thank You’ for your ongoing support of grass-roots music events! \nTickets for the Julyy 7th Showcase event are available at the door on the day and are $20 for adults\, $5 for under-18s (with under-12s free). \nThe live music will start at 11:30am sharp and continue through till 8pm.

While primarily recognised as an axeman of tenacity and sweet melodic sensibility\, Ian’s distinctive vocal is the essential signature of his soulful\, bluesy muse – as it has been since his first tentative foray into music during the early 1970s. \nBorn and raised in Alice Springs\, Ian started playing guitar in local teenage bands but moved to Adelaide after failing one of his high school years\, planning to repeat in the big city. Fate intervened when he answered an advertisement for a guitarist in a shop window in 1973\, joining the band that was to become a legend in Australia and that made such an undeniable impact that they are now etched in the Australian music psyche forever. DESCRIPTION:After making a lot of new fans at last year’s BB&RMF\, Joel Havea is back in Bendigo on 16 March\, as part of his 2019 down-under tour. And he’s a welcome addition to roster of brilliant concerts being staged this year at The Old Church on the Hill. \nJoel Havea is a man of many talents. A skilled songwriter\, a natural singer\, unique guitarist and an overall engaging performer whose songs demonstrate his wide-ranging musical and cultural influences. \nThe Tongan born\, Australian raised musician has been based in Europe for the last 10 years which explains his eclectic style\, best described as a soulful mix of reggae infused pop with touches of blues & funk\, held together by a rock solid Polynesian groove. \nSince the release of his well-received debut album in 2012\, he has played over 500 concerts in more than 20 countries on 4 continents. \nIn March 2017 his new album “Setting Sail”\, was released\, the first with his Hamburg based band\, the Joel Havea Trio. Over the last few years\, the band has established themselves as a fixture on the European club and festival circuit including appearances at the Reeperbahn Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival. \nIt’s exciting to have Joel back in Bendigo\, especially with his brilliant support act Louie and the Pride\, making their Old Church on the Hill debut…\nLouie and the Pride formed in 2010 and since has seen some different incarnations\, in instrumentation and style. Sporting hooky original songs written by a woman and her guitar\, drenched in 3 part harmonies and atmospheric arrangements\, performed by great long-time friends.\nThey have had a beautiful response to their crowd funded debut album Wake Me Up and are currently recording their next EP\, Laws of Attraction\, due for release in March. \nDoors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start and the door charge is only $15.
