After establishing himself as a program favorite at BB&RMF the last few years, Jimmy Davis is back in Bendigo on Friday 12 April, where he’s a welcome addition to roster of brilliant concerts being staged this year at The Old Church on the Hill. Jimmy will be ably supported on the night by Grim Fawkner and Bendigo’s own Sherri Parry!
Jimmy Davis:
Story telling, lyrically conscious. Quirky and upbeat stage presence. Outstanding vocal performance. 12-string guitar with
fingerstyle/blues/folk influences. Howling blues anthems to intricate instrumentals.
Jimmy Davis is one of Australia’s most dynamic and versatile performers, with a sky high vocal range reminiscent of Robert Plant meets
Jeff Buckley, whilst heavily influenced by Tom Waits’s poetry. Jimmy is lyrically conscious and not genre restricted.
Grim Fawkner:
One of Australia’s best DIY artists, Grim has earned a career-bolstering following around the world with his honest lyrics, soulful performing and playful personality.
A self-taught guitarist, he has developed his own style that at times leaves other guitarists jaws hanging, and with an evolving lyrical poignancy to his writing he continues to woo his audiences brains on a poetic level.
He has been public voted “Melbourne’s Best Busker”, strummed streets and stages throughout the UK, Europe, New Zealand, and hollered from festivals such as Byron Bay Bluesfest, Queenscliff Music Festival and Falls Festival.
Sherri Parry:
At just 21 years old, Sherri Parry is already making a name for herself as one of the most exciting singer songwriters in the Victorian folk scene. Sherri began her career at the age of 12, playing open mics and small gigs in central Victoria. She soon began to gain recognition for her talent, winning awards for both her songwriting and performance skills. It was around this time Sherri’s music caught the attention of accomplished singer songwriters such as Grim Fawkner and Tom Lee Richards, who have since acted as mentors to her.
Sherri Parry’s music showcases both composition skills and world views well beyond her time, and her live performances are nothing but a testament to that. Delivering intimate, ethereal performances that never fail to leave audiences spellbound.
Parry debuted her highly anticipated first EP, ‘EQUAL’ in October 16, sharing six songs exploring people, life and relationships.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start and the door charge is only $10. Don’t miss out!
The Old Church on the Hill is located on the corner of Harkness and Russell Streets, Quarry Hill, Bendigo.
The Singer/Songwriter Showcase events, staged at the Old Church by the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival crew on a semi-regular basis, are an opportunity to enjoy a House Concert vibe in a public venue. The door charge is generally $15 per head, under 12s free and, although drinks are available for sale, the focus is on THE MUSIC. If your conversation is more important to you than other people’s enjoyment of the artists’ performance, please take it outside.
Proceeds from drink sales go to supporting the Old Church crew and their many worthy initiatives.
We look forward to your company for an intimate concert experience like you’ve likely never experienced before.
